The new Pensions Bill is the biggest change to the pensions system since Clement Attlees post-war Labour Government implemented the Beveridge reforms. It will make pensions fairer, particularly for women and carers. At the moment only around a third of women retire with a full state pension. And, in order to ensure the reforms are affordable and sustainable, the government plans to raise the State Pension Age gradually to 68 by 2046. John Hutton MP, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, has produced an informative podcast to explain the impact of the new Pensions Bill and answer some of your questions.
