Kerry served this week as a member of the Committee on Delegated Legislation dealing with the setting up of a database under section 12 of the Children Act 2004.This database, to be known as ContactPoint, will enable practitioners across education, health, social care, youth justice and the voluntary sector, who come into contact with vulnerable children, to share information so that they are better able to deliver coordinated support. It is hoped that in doing so, they will be able to avoid a repeat of the tragic Victoria Climbie case. The regulations – the Children Act 2004 Information Database (England) Regulations 2007 – have been subject to wide consultation. Access to the database will be strictly restricted to those who need it as part of their work.
