Kerry McCarthy Labour MP for Bristol East
It was great to meet the Women’s Institute and learn about their #EndPlasticSoup campaign. Micro-plastic fibres are tiny strands of plastic shed from synthetic clothing. These fibres are washed into the ocean, digested by marine life, and ultimately end up in our food.
I wholeheartedly support the The WI (National Federation of Women’s Institutes)‘s campaign, which follows the introduction of the UK’s microbeads ban and my campaign for a Plastic Free Parliament. The threat of plastic to our oceans is huge, and I’m glad that the issue is finally getting the attention that it deserves.
