To coincide with World Anti-Slavery Day, this afternoon I led a debate in parliament calling on the government and supermarkets to act to get rid of modern slavery and other forms of exploitation from food supply chains.

Cheap food comes at a cost, often because workers are being underpaid, over-worked or trafficked and enslaved. Oxfam’s recent Behind the Barcodes campaign found a direct correlation between drops in the prices paid by the supermarkets to suppliers and the risk of human rights violations in supply chains increasing.

You can watch the debate in full on Parliament TV (https://goo.gl/Nk2RuW) or read my article in the Guardian to find out more about why this is such an important issue.
