This morning in the Commons, I managed to raise the case of local family-run business FreeStyle Xtreme who have been forced to move jobs to Romania due to the uncertainty caused by Brexit – with the Government still having not reached a deal with the EU. I know other small and medium sized businesses are facing the same dilemma, as we simply have no idea what the UK’s trading relationship with the EU – our biggest economic partners – will look like in April next year.

Unfortunately, the Brexit Secretary had no answer to my question or for FreeStyle Xtreme, and I have little hope that the Government will secure a deal that meets Labour’s six tests. Theresa May and her Ministers’ failure to agree even amongst themselves on what Brexit should look like means that “no deal” is a real possibility, and this would be truly disastrous for our city and our country. I cannot envisage a scenario in which the Labour Party will be voting for the Prime Minister’s deal, and we need to keep all options on the table – including a General Election and a People’s Vote UK – in case the deal is defeated or no deal with the EU is reached.
