I’ve been made aware of two cases of Meningitis B involving students at the University of Bristol, who have been admitted to hospital and are both recovering well. My thoughts are with them and their families at this stressful time. While the risk of further cases is low, this is an important reminder to familiarise yourself with the signs and symptoms of Meningitis, which you can read about here: https://www.meningitisnow.org/meningiti…/signs-and-symptoms/. If you’re a student, it’s worth checking if you’ve received the Men ACWY vaccine, which your GP can provide.
I also recently attended a Parliamentary drop-in on Meningitis, and met with campaigners to discuss what else I can do to help. I’ll be chasing the Department of Health for follow-up on recommendations made by the meningococcal working group, which has met several times this year after I went along with campaigners to meet Jeremy Hunt.
