The Environmental Audit Committee, of which I am a member, has recently held an inquiry into hand car washes. These small businesses – which often pop up in supermarket carparks and on disused forecourts – can not only be damaging to the environment but have also been linked to modern slavery offences.
The Committee is calling for stronger legislation to combat modern slavery in this sector, but in the meantime, I encourage those of you who use hand car washes to familiarise yourself with the signs of modern slavery and report any concerns to the appropriate authorities.
