Kerry McCarthy Labour MP for Bristol East
I have recently been contacted by more than 120 constituents about the HorseWorld Trust campaign to end the cruel and unnecessary long-term tethering of horses.
Horse World’s UK Headquarters is on the border of my constituency, and I wholeheartedly support this campaign. I’ve written a letter to the Minister to highlight the issue – I have attached the response below. I will also be visiting the Headquarters in January to talk to the Horse World team about how I can help further.
Countless horses suffer from being tethered in inappropriate places such as in the middle of roundabouts and next to busy roads, and they are often tied up for several days – if not permanently – with little access to food or enrichment. By making a relatively small change to existing policy, we can ensure that horses are no longer allowed to be kept in this way.
