It was a real pleasure to visit Mrs Wynter in her St George nursing home this weekend, to help her celebrate her 102nd birthday. Mrs Wynter is something of a legend in Bristol, having been part of the original civil rights movement that was sparked by the Bristol bus boycotts and which led to the Labour Government introducing ground-breaking Race Relations Acts in the 1960s.

I’m pictured with Sangeetha, her granddaughter, who has been shadowing me through the Operation Black Vote scheme, and Deputy Mayor/ Councillor for St George West, Asher Craig.
