Kerry McCarthy Labour MP for Bristol East
Parliament returned from its Christmas recess yesterday, and later this week, the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal will be debated (again, after she pulled it in December because she was going to lose the vote on it). We are now expecting the ‘meaningful vote’ on the deal to take place next Tuesday.
If you didn’t already know, I will be voting against the deal. I am staunchly opposed to “no-deal”, and I support a People’s Vote with an option to remain in the EU on the ballot paper. I’ve signed a letter along with over 200 other MPs from across the Commons asking Theresa May to rule out no-deal, and should be meeting her later today to discuss this. I’ve also signed a cross-party amendment to the Finance Bill which aims to make it harder for the Government to drift into no-deal without Parliament being able to prevent it or even having a say on it.
