Yesterday I visited HorseWorld Trust, the horse rescue centre just outside Stockwood in my constituency. I’ve received nearly 120 emails from constituents in support of the charity’s #BreaktheChains campaign – more than any other MP, I’m told. I entirely agree with my constituents that we need to do more to stop the practice of horse tethering, where horses can be tied up for hours on end, sometimes all day, with not enough water and no shelter. It’s particularly sad to see horses tethered by the roadside, which is a common occurrence in places like Cardiff, Swansea and closer to home in South Gloucestershire.

HorseWorld also does excellent work in its discovery programme, where young people with social, emotional, mental health and learning needs benefit hugely from contact with the horses, taking responsibility for their care and getting the chance to ride.

The best part of the visit was, of course, getting to meet some of the horses, including Twiglet, who has a starring role with me in this video! It’s worth watching through to the end…
