This week the report of the Children’s Future Food Inquiry, which I’ve been actively involved in, was launched in London by our Young Food Ambassadors and Dame Emma Thompson. It is a very important and timely report, highlighting the often-hidden problem of child hunger. On the same day, new figures were published by the Trussell Trust, revealing that their food banks had given out 1.6 million emergency food parcels in the past year, over half a million of which went to children. Trussell Trust is of course by no means the only food bank provider in this country.

It’s shameful that in a country like Britain so many children are regularly missing meals, turning up to school hungry, or, because of family circumstances or where they live, rarely get to eat good, healthy food. During this Inquiry, we heard directly from the children themselves, with compelling accounts of their own experiences and those of their classmates. These are voices the Government must not ignore.
