I support Campaign for Better Transport’s calls for a National Bus Strategy, and I was proud to support “Catch the Bus Week” last week. 6 out of 10 public transport journeys are made by bus, which helps reduce carbon emissions, air pollution, and congestion. It is clear that the Government should be doing more to support bus usage.

Our fragmented and privatised bus service has failed to deliver a quality service for passengers, and services are too expensive and unreliable. It’s scandalous that municipal bus companies, where local councils runs a bus service for the local community and not for private profit, are blocked under current rules and I support changing the law here.
