This morning I had the pleasure of helping local postie Dave Stock on his delivery round in Fishponds. Dave has been with Royal Mail for three years, and loves his job, particularly the opportunity it gives him to get outdoors and to talk to people in the local community. Sometimes postal workers are the only contact isolated or elderly people have, and I got hear from Dave how he’d managed to help people while out and about on his rounds.

I was invited along by the Royal Mail to see the delivery service in action, and to discuss the changing nature of our postal services, with a 5% drop in letters year on year, and many more parcels because of online shopping. With 25 years’ experience of delivering leaflets for the Labour Party, I like to think I took to being a postie with ease!
