I am troubled to hear recent reports from Kashmir. By revoking Article 370 India has stripped the region of its autonomous status, which it has had for 70 years. Internet and phone networks in the region have been cut off and some political leaders have been put under house arrest. We are also seeing an increase in military and police personnel. All of this will lead to increased tensions between India and Pakistan.

I believe that India and Pakistan must work together to find a peaceful solution to this matter. The UK government must urge India to restore the special autonomous status of Kashmir and deescalate the situation. I am closely following this matter as a member of the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Kashmir. Attached is a letter by Debbie Abrahams, the chair of the APPG, to the Indian High Commissioner to the UK. I will be sure to keep you updated and let you know when we receive a response.
