There has been a lot of media attention this week on holiday hunger provision. The families of children who have free school meals during term-time can often struggle financially during the long summer break.

This is something that I’ve campaigned on for a long-time now, and last year Feeding Bristol was given Government money to run a pilot. Unfortunately, despite the huge success of that scheme, we were not given any Government money this year, and had to resort to crowd-funding. This has been covered in both the Guardian* and by ITV News.

I cannot see why the Government still needs to run pilots, as Bristol and other places have shown how it can be done. We’ve had so many spending commitments from Boris Johnson since he entered No. 10; I’d like him to commit to making sure no child goes hungry when the Christmas holidays, which are so expensive for families anyway, are here.
