Some of you may have heard about the efforts of my 8 year old constituent, Edie, to raise awareness of plastic pollution and to try to stop McDonalds giving away plastic toys with their Happy Meals. I caught up with Edie in Fishponds, and she updated me on how her campaign is going. Her online petition (link below) has more than 1000 signatures, and she’s collected another 100 on paper from her school friends. She’s also had a letter from McDonalds, which we’re holding up here, saying that they’re going to reduce the amount of plastic toys they give away by 60%. Like Edie, I don’t think this is good enough! Edie is now encouraging children to support #HanditBacktoMac by returning the toys to McDonalds and making clear they’re not wanted.
