Last Friday, I spoke to BBC News about the devastating fires that are ravaging the Amazon rainforest. It’s terrifying to see the wanton destruction of the world’s most important ecosystem and with the full support of Jair Bolsonaro, the Brazilian President. The future of the Amazon is critical to us all. I’ll be writing to the Government shortly to demand that no future trade deal encourages deforestation. The Government should seriously consider banning Brazilian beef imports, given the industry is responsible for 80% of the Amazon’s current deforestation rate.
