Attorney General Questions

Several constituents have written to me in recent months to highlight their concerns about the low levels of rape prosecutions in England and Wales, with only a third of cases referred to the Crown Prosecution Service between April and September last year resulting in charges being brought. Last week during Oral Questions, I raised this with the Attorney General, along with the dramatic rise in reports of rape, sexual assault, and harassment at UK universities over the past three years, and how such companies are investigated. You can read the exchange here: http://bit.ly/2OmzFNz. The Government’s review into rape and serious sexual offences is ongoing – my Labour Party colleagues and I will continue to use this as an opportunity to advocate for victims, and to ensure that they are taken seriously.
