Yesterday I contributed to the Queen’s Speech debate on the climate emergency. While I welcome the inclusion and direction of travel set out by the Agriculture and Environment bills, they simply don’t go far enough to restore nature and tackle climate change. I focused my interventions on the global impact of our consumption habits, such as deforestation of the Amazon caused by our demand for beef and soya for livestock feed, and the need to prevent any lowering of standards in future trade deals. I now hope to speak in next Wednesday’s debate on the Environment Bill and intend to raise the loophole on targets identified by Greenpeace in the article below.
