On Monday night the five-day debate on the Queen’s Speech concluded and, unsurprisingly, the Government won the vote to proceed with its legislative programme. I focused my contribution to the debate on the climate and ecological crisis we are facing and my deep concern about the Government’s ability to rise to the challenge at hand. In the last two weeks alone, two Ministers have appeared at the Despatch Box speaking on the Australian bushfires and FlyBe, respectively, and simply failed to acknowledge climate change in their opening statements. The Government claims to be serious about reaching net zero and being a global leader, but it’s currently giving a very good impression of the opposite!
