Kerry McCarthy Labour MP for Bristol East
It’s hugely unfair that Lost and Grounded, a Living Wage brewery in east Bristol, is facing having one of their most successful products removed from the shelf as the result of a single, unfounded and anonymous complaint.
The self-regulatory body for the alcohol industry, the Portman Group, which is dominated by the biggest companies, has released a bulletin advising shops to stop stocking “Running with Sceptres”, as the illustrations on the can apparently appeal to children. There are obvious flaws in a body which can deem an up-market Indian Pale Lager to be advertised to minors, but has the company behind WKD, a bright blue alcopop, as a member.
Lost and Grounded’s decision to challenge the Portman Group’s ruling has my full support, and I sincerely hope that shops which stock their beer will disregard the Portman Group’s ruling.
