You may have seen that yesterday the Prime Minister delivered the first of his daily updates on coronavirus, along with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Scientific Officer.  These daily updates will be a really important chance for journalists to directly ask the questions which are on everyone’s minds at the moment and should hopefully provide some clarity and reassurance at this very difficult time.

It’s vitally important that we all follow the Government’s social distancing advice.  It’s also important to keep up to date as the advice will change to reflect the different stages of the situation.  You can keep up to date here:

Guidance on social distancing for everyone in the UK and protecting older people and vulnerable adults

In accordance with the new public health guidelines, my constituency office will be closed to the public until further notice.  Even though the office is closed, my team and I are of course still available to help with queries and casework.  You can contact us at kerry.mccarthy.mp@parliament.uk.

The community response to the situation has been incredibly heartening.  In order to help people who are having to self-isolate, Bristol Council has started registering those willing and ready to volunteer their support (in whichever form you would like that to take) on their website here. It is fantastic that so many people want to offer their services at this trying time, and this will ensure that we can connect you safely to those who need it most.  Please do also continue to check in on family, friends and neighbours who may be vulnerable as this period of unprecedented uncertainty continues.

This is clearly a very strange and difficult time for all of us.  Please do contact my office if we can help with anything.  And as ever, keep taking the simplest of measures to protect yourself and others – washing our hands!
