Here I am on BBC News this week discussing the problems in the supported housing sector and my campaign for reform.

A small minority of supported housing providers have taken advantage of the lack of regulation in the sector and claim enhanced and occasionally extortionate rates of housing benefit for their clients (people facing addiction or mental health issues, prison leavers, or people leaving care) without putting in place proper support. As a result, vulnerable people are not getting the care they need.

I have been working on this issue ever since concerns were raised about a local project, Wick House, which had serious allegations of wrongdoing and neglect including one shocking incident where the death of a tenant, Paul Way, went unnoticed for 3 days.

In the coming weeks I will be introducing a Bill to Parliament that would legislate for regulation of the sector. I hope the Government will support it.
