The Children’s Commissioner’s ‘Unregulated’ report raised serious concerns about how so many looked after children are being dumped in unregulated accommodation, receiving very little oversight or support, and then end up being exploited and abused by criminal gangs.

The findings of the report are troubling, even identifying some staff working in these settings who have criminal records and access to their own children restricted, and would never been allowed to work with children had proper checks taken place.

These vulnerable young people deserve better. The Children’s Commissioner has called for an end to the use of unregulated accommodation for children in care and my Supported Housing Bill would do just that. During Home Office Questions this week, I raised this important issue and called on the Government to back my Bill. I hope the Government will listen.
