During the latest Women and Equalities Questions, I asked the Minister about the development of the new national autism strategy, as well as about the experiences of people with autism and learning disabilities in mental health facilities. The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report on this was damning, so I wanted reassurances that the Government is taking action to ensure that people with autism are treated sensitively when having to spend time as an inpatient.

I’m glad that the Government is acting on the CQC report, and that reform of the Mental Health Act will start to address this issue, too. I’ll keep an eye on all the developments the Minister mentioned in the weeks and months to come.
