Earlier today during Defence Questions I took the opportunity to seek assurances that funding from the Positive Pathways programme was being used effectively to support veterans.  This fund invests in charity projects in four areas – sports, arts and culture, getting outside, and heritage – that focus on improving veterans’ mental health and wellbeing.

I was glad to see money allocated to supporting military charities in the Budget, but it can’t just be a symbolic short-term gesture. The Government must ensure that these schemes don’t just give veterans the opportunity to participate in beneficial activities like trekking, gardening, arts or sports, but are a pathway towards helping them in the long-term too.
