Today Labour MP Taiwo Owatemi MP is introducing a 10 Minute Rule Bill calling for a ban on the import, export, sale and purchase of fur in the UK. I am co-sponsoring this bill, alongside several members of the shadow cabinet. The aim is to force the Government to introduce a stand-alone ban on fur, rather than waiting months (or possibly years!) for the new Animal Welfare Bill, which has yet to materialise.

The Government has reneged on so many promises to help animals in the UK – for example, the promise to enshrine animal sentience in UK Law once we left the EU. I hope Ministers will adopt this Labour proposal, and bring an end to the cruel and exploitative fur industry.
