Kerry McCarthy Labour MP for Bristol East
I really enjoyed my visit to GoAhead’s all-electric bus depot in Waterloo this week, in my role as Labour’s Shadow Minister for Green Transport.
This site is home to fifty electric buses delivering green, reliable and affordable journeys around London. This, along with Bristol’s moves to green our own bus fleet with the new biogas buses, shows what progress can be made at local level, but it shouldn’t just be left to Labour councils. It’s about time the Government stepped up – yet there’s no sign of the 4,000 zero emission buses they promised last year.
The independent Climate Change Committee has today released a damning progress report that criticises the Government for failing to make progress towards its climate targets. Transport is a huge part of this, and we need to see action from the Government rather than just talk.
