This week, after the Government unveiled its woefully inadequate Net Zero Strategy, I asked what the Government was doing to make electric vehicles more affordable for the average driver and gave the Minister the opportunity to deny rumours that the Chancellor was going to cut existing grants for electric vehicles in his Budget next week. The Minister refused to do.
Given the COP26 climate summit is now only two weeks away, the idea that the Government would be looking to cut subsidies for electric vehicles is extremely worrying. Not least as the Prime Minister has claimed electric vehicles will be a key priority at the summit.
The Government urgently needs to start showing climate leadership at home if it is to have any hope of securing an ambitious agreement at COP26.
