I’m one of more than 90 MPs who have signed Labour’s Kate Osborne’s letter calling on the Home Secretary to urgently investigate the length of time it is taking for the Home Office to process asylum applications.

I know from my constituents the impact of long delays on their lives, stuck on hold whilst they await a decision. People hoping to claim asylum in the UK are fleeing conflict and persecution. Yet over 60% of applicants are now waiting longer than six months for a decision, are unable to work in the meantime, and have to live on less than £40 a week.

This is no way to treat vulnerable people.
