Thirty years ago I made my own New Year’s resolution to go vegan, and haven’t looked back since. This January, I’ve written for the Times about the importance of Veganuary and how changing diets is essential for both our health and the planet’s.

In recent years it’s been encouraging to see more and more people embracing the shift to plant-based eating. But with the climate emergency looming it’s clear we also need Government action to speed up the transition to healthier, sustainable diets.

Ministers will have plenty of opportunities in 2022 to start taking the action needed to change our broken food systems, especially with the White Paper we’re expecting in response to the National Food Strategy. (If you haven’t seen the NFS, it’s an impressive piece of work and worth a look). I’ll be doing what I can to push them on this. In the meantime, if you are still considering going vegan for January then it’s not too late to start!
