It was amazing to see Nazanin, Richard, and Gabriella in Parliament yesterday. As the years went by, as she was persecuted by one Government and let down time and time again by another, I genuinely feared that this day would never come. And yet, with the sun shining and her family reunited, her strength during the press conference was on show for all to see. I’d like again to commend my colleague Tulip Siddiq for her relentless work on the Zaghari-Ratcliffe case.

The freedom of dual nationals shouldn’t be linked to international agreements. Morad Tahbaz remains in Iranian detainment, and I’ll be writing to the Foreign Secretary today to ensure we’re doing everything in our power to not leave Morad behind.

I spoke in a debate last week about Human Rights taking a back seat in UK Foreign Policy. This should be a stark reminder that it must guide everything we do. Lessons must be learnt with a full inquest to prevent the same happening again.

As Nazanin herself put it – “𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘪𝘨𝘯 𝘴𝘦𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘣𝘰𝘥𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘩𝘰𝘮𝘦? 𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘯𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘪𝘹 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘢𝘨𝘰.”
