Yesterday I attended the National Deaf Children’s Society’s roadshow event at Elmfield School for Deaf Children. I boarded the Roadshow bus and heard about the latest technology that’s available to help D/deaf children to go through their school day independently – from radio aids and TV streamers to vibrate-only alarm clocks.

I also visited the Acorns group at the school, and spoke to parents of babies and toddlers with hearing loss. I heard about the barriers D/deaf children face in getting their educational needs met – including with EHCPs – and the impact the pandemic has had on their development. It was great to hear about the multi-faceted support both Elmfield School and the National Deaf Children’s Society provide to these children and their families.

Membership to the National Deaf Children’s Society is free and the team offer advice and guidance via their helpline. This can be accessed via phone, SMS, BSL SignVideo, form or live chat. For more information visit their  website here.
