At Prime Minister’s Questions today, I asked Boris Johnson to support organisations like The CALMzone, expand suicide prevention initiatives and take up Labour’s pledge to end dangerously long mental health waiting lists. Rather than committing to fresh action, the Prime Minister simply repeated his claim that the Government is already investing enough in mental health services.

Suicide rates tragically went up after the 2008 financial crash, and those worst affected by the cost-of-living crisis could suffer the same consequences. As well as supporting people financially, the Government must ensure anyone who needs counselling can access it within a month of referral.

If you’re struggling with poor mental health or suicidal thoughts, please contact your GP, call Samaritans for free on 116 123 or visit CALM’s website here.
