I’ve now written a letter to the Trade Minister, Penny Mordaunt, following up on a question I asked last week about Britain’s Free Trade Agreements with Australia and New Zealand. Thank you to Green Alliance for their contribution, and for their excellent work on this.

It’s been revealed that Liz Truss, then Trade Secretary in 2020, ignored warnings from her own officials about the damage the agreements would have upon an already depleted British food and agriculture sector, threatening jobs and welfare standards. When I asked Penny Mordaunt, she professed to know nothing about this.

If polls are to be believed, Liz Truss is on her way to becoming Prime Minister. But if the Foreign Secretary couldn’t be trusted to do the right thing for farmers, how does she think she can be trusted to run the country?
