I recently spoke to the BBC about suicide prevention. There’s been much focus on the need to talk about our mental health, and that’s important but its just the start. People need to be able to find help when they seek it. That means the Government tackling waiting lists and allocating funding to keep suicide reduction programmes running.

In this report for BBC Points West, grieving fathers Nigel and Jack talk about the impact suicide has on those left behind. From my work with suicide prevention organisations, I know practical steps can be taken to save lives. I will be scrutinising the Government’s Suicide Prevention Action Plan when it’s published to make sure its promises are turned into meaningful action.
