I called by the Warm This Winter stand in Parliament earlier today to support the campaign for emergency energy bills support and a switch to cheaper renewables.

Rising energy costs means too many people will be struggling to keep warm this coming winter. As well as providing immediate help with bills, we need to look further ahead. The rapid roll-out of a home insulation programme and more support for renewables would help bring down bills, secure our energy independence and lower carbon emissions.

Labour has already announced £6bn of investment every year until 2030 as part of our plan to insulate all 19 million homes rated below EPC Band C (the energy efficient rating of a home). Grants will be provided to low-income households, while those who can afford it will receive low-interest loans. This will save the average household £400 a year on energy bills, ending our dependence on fossil fuels and volatile foreign despots in the process.

Please do get in touch with Citizens Advice or the Centre for Sustainable Energy if you’re struggling.
