Kerry McCarthy Labour MP for Bristol East
It is beyond belief that, during an energy crisis worsened by our reliance on fossil fuels, this Government would be considering putting up new blocks to solar power developments in the UK. This will drive up bills, put our energy security at risk and risk our progress on our crucial climate targets.
It is important that good agricultural land is primarily used for growing food, but there are ways to introduce solar onto farms that still allow food to be grown and nature to flourish.
Whilst this Government tries to block new renewable energy sources, Labour has set out our plan for a clean power system by 2030. That means doubling onshore wind and tripling solar – not putting up new blocks to both.
