Kerry McCarthy Labour MP for Bristol East
You can watch a clip here of the speech I gave earlier today on the situation in Iran and the barbaric treatment of protestors there.
As I said in my speech: “𝘞𝘦’𝘷𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘷𝘢𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘴 𝘵𝘰𝘥𝘢𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘐𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘫𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺. 𝘛𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘶𝘣𝘮𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘤𝘰𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘪𝘯𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘭𝘱 𝘥𝘰 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘨𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘥.”
The Foreign Secretary has announced a wave of sanctions and been clear that the UK opposes human rights abuses. But unless we do more, the executions will continue. I called for independent access to trials, a moratorium on executions, and proper accountability for the Iranian regime.
