This week I spoke out against the cruel experiments still being conducted on beagles and other dogs which are bred specifically for animal testing, in a Westminster Hall debate on this petition.

It is shameful that the UK continues to subject thousands of beagles to cruel and painful animal testing every year. These dogs are often force-fed toxic chemicals, made to inhale pesticides or deliberately given heart attacks in the name of scientific research.
It was good to see a cross-party consensus on this from the MPs speaking in the debate, but very disappointing that the Minister took so little heed of what we had to say. You can read the full transcript of the debate here.

It is clear we still have a long way to go to speed up the development of humane alternatives that can eliminate the need for animal testing for good, but I will continue to push for just that in Parliament.
