This week I responded to an Urgent Question about the ongoing collapse of the UK steel industry.

Tens of thousands of jobs depend on this vital sector, but the Government has failed to offer a long-term plan to secure its future, instead only offering short-term bailouts which are not enough to put the sector on a sustainable footing.

Our steel industry was once a source of great pride, but it has been left in a dire situation whilst this Government sits on its hands. Just this week British Steel was reportedly considering 800 additional job losses.

No other developed country is facing the loss of its steel industry. The next Labour Government will reject the failed sticking-plaster solutions of the current Government. We will act to secure the long-term future of the industry with our £3bn plan to green UK steel.
