Today Kerry met with a senior manager from First Great Western to discuss what measures have been put in place to improve the rail service over recent weeks. She was told that FGW have committed more staff, more rolling stock and more money to the franchise, and that this increased investment will be permanent, not temporary. The company admits it made serious errors when it introduced the December timetable, not least in under-estimating passenger demand in the Bristol area, and it will take steps to ensure this does not happen again. The company is also committed to making sure that the Severn Beach Line becomes a successful commuter railway.
