This morning, I raised the case of a family run business in East Bristol that sells extreme sports equipment to over 80 countries – the perfect example that Global Britain is already in existence despite what Boris Johnson may say.

The business told me that tariffs alone – that will be imposed if no deal happens – will cost them £1.6m. There will undoubtedly be additional costs to exporting businesses because of Brexit, such as customs paperwork, increased price of logistics and availability of labour. What this means in practice is that it will become impossible to trade with many countries, as customers won’t be prepared to pay the higher costs.

I was deeply concerned to hear that this local business was invited to talk to both Trade Secretary Liam Fox and former Brexit Secretary David Davis – providing they didn’t talk about Brexit! The Government’s total failure to get a grip over Brexit is pushing the country ever closer to no deal, which would disastrous for businesses. I hope that Ministers will start listening to businesses, including those in my constituency, before it is too late.
