Yesterday I spent the day with the Avon and Somerset Constabulary, where I was able to get a really interesting insight into policing work. In the morning I went out on patrol with the response team and got to see how they respond rapidly to incidents, follow up on arrest warrants on suspects, and collect evidence in ongoing investigations. I also spent some time with Clare, the new beat officer for St George, and saw how she monitors potential criminal activity in the area and keeps in touch with local people.
The police are doing the best job they can, but there’s been a big drop in police numbers because of Government funding cuts. Please sign my petition to reverse the cuts to frontline policing here.
