Kerry McCarthy Labour MP for Bristol East
Yesterday marked 1000 days since the licensing of the drug Orkambi in the UK, yet patients with cystic fibrosis still do not have access to the drug on the NHS. This is an issue close to my heart, as my niece suffers from cystic fibrosis – a debilitating life-shortening illness which affects more than 10,000 people in the UK, including some in my constituency. I have raised the issue of access to Orkambi on numerous occasions in Parliament, and most recently have signed a joint letter to Vertex (the company that manufactures Orkambi) to urge them to resume negotiations with NHS England so that patients can get the treatment they so desperately need.
