Many of my constituents have been in touch with me in recent months to highlight their concerns about the horrific treatment of the Rohingya people, hundreds of thousands of whom have had to flee their homes because of human rights abuses committed by the Myanmar military.

As well as having written to the Foreign Secretary personally about this on behalf of people in Bristol East, I have now signed a letter to the Prime Minister, along with over 160 other MPs, calling on her to refer the Myanmar military to the International Criminal Court. We have timed this to coincide with the Foreign Secretary’s visit to Myanmar later in the month.

While I am proud of the humanitarian response Britain has provided to the Rohingya crisis so far, it is vital that those responsible are held to account and I will continue to do all I can to ensure this happens.
