In the midst of this week’s Brexit votes, I took some time out of the main chamber to speak in a Westminster Hall debate on the interdependence of farming and the environment. It was a welcome opportunity to reflect on the opportunities and challenges the sector faces as we await the return of the Agriculture Bill later this year.

I covered a broad range of issues in my remarks, including: the decline of farmland wildlife because of intensive agriculture, why farming with nature is actually good for business, the opportunities that agroecological approaches to food and farming present, and perhaps most importantly the sector’s impact on our environment and the current climate emergency.
