Earlier this week I co-signed a letter to the Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in support of ‘Youth Now for Climate Change and Renewable Energy’, about the removal of support for renewables. Youth Now wants the Government to listen to the voices of many young people across the country by ensuring funding is extended, followed by immediate action to tackle the current climate emergency. I completely agree with them.

It was disheartening to read that 30 community energy projects are set to fail this week because the Government’s Feed-in Tariff cap had been reached ahead of its termination on Sunday. Renewables are the cheapest source of energy, battery storage costs are falling, and consumer support for renewables is at an all-time high. To remove support, when fossil fuels receive around £10.5 billion each year in the UK, is nothing short of nonsensical.
