On Friday, I visited Graphics Packaging International, a company in my constituency which produces 77% of the UK’s cardboard packaging used for beverage multipacks. It was good to hear their thoughts on a number of issues, such as the shortage of skilled workers, exciting proposals for how their cardboard products can be used to replace traditional plastic packaging in the future, and the opportunities they are creating for local young people to do apprenticeships.

I was pleased that my office could be of assistance earlier this year, when the factory was faced with the threat of closure due to a number of occupied vans taking up residence on the street, putting its BRC licensing in jeopardy. This issue has now been resolved and the factory has since seen significant new investment, creating 30 extra jobs.
